Answer: 4. An un-sanded grout is used in grout joints less than 1/8” wide, as sanded grout will not pack into joints 1/8” or less. Sanded grout has a fine sand aggregate that keeps the grout from shrinking in grout joints larger than 1/8”. Answer: 5. The maintenance on stone tile is really very little. After you lay the tile you have to make sure to seal it with either a penetrated sealer or stone and enhance sealer. Question: 6. What are the advantages of a mud set installation over a durock installation?

Answer: 6. Durock, Wonderboard and other panel systems although more water resistant than tiling over drywall they will be fastened to the studs with screws or galvanized nails any movement in framing will pull on cement panels and transfuse that movement through the tile and create a crack in the joint corners and through the tile itself. Its suggested that cement panel installations be waterproofed before tiling. Where a mud set installation is an independent system from rough framing. Wire lath is stapled to framing and then a mortar mix is applied to the lath to plumb and level any inconsistencies in framing this. Application also lets wood framing move behind mud coat so it can not transfer that movement through to the tile, therefore no corners, or tile joints to crack and leak.
